Alcatraz

Alcatraz was once home to the worst criminals in America and is now one of the most haunted historical tourist attractions in the nation.

Strange and unexplained noises are the most common occurrence on this island. Often the sound of banjo music can be heard coming from the old shower room. In Cell blocks A, B, and C visitors and staff have heard footsteps, screams, whispers and banging on the cell bars. Also, those that have been at Cell Block D have reported hearing three separate voices having a chat with one another.

At one time the federal government launched an investigation into the conditions at the prison. What they found was horrifying. Many of the prisoners were nearly beaten to death and those that were left in solitary confinement for months on end had suffered from sensory deprivation. As a result of these horrible circumstances, it is no wonder that this place is home to so many lost souls.

When Alcatraz shut down in 1963 it became the property of the National Park Service.
