December 21, 2012

December 21, 2012. To some this is just a date in the near future and nothing more. While to others, both past and present, this day marks great cataclysmic change for our planet.

According to the ancient Mayan civilization and their sacred calendar, which is considered the most accurate in the world, December 21, 2012 is the day their calendar ends and marks an end to a 5, 126 year era. The question is why and what message were the Mayans trying to convey? The Mayans are known for the knowledge they possessed of our solar system and its cycles. They were incredibly accurate sky watchers and, as such, able to make future predictions.

For the first time in about 26,000 years, on the day of the winter solstice, the sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way. This means that the energy that typically streams to Earth from the center of the Milky Way will be disrupted. The Mayans saw this future event and marked it down so to speak. So how will this affect us here on Earth? Some believe that it is the end of the world as we know it. Others think that a polar reversal will take place causing huge disasters. Many scientists agree that this alignment will cause an increase in volcanic activity, solar flares and many more environmental disruptions. But will it wipe us off the face of the earth? We have 5 years to find out!

One of my favorite topics. I'm not placing any bets either way. The alignment with the galactic center is startling; but I always wonder how we can be sure about our calendars. The cycle of destruction seems clear; I'll be ready for anything that week, but won't be surprised if it's another Y2K.

Mine too. I think that the alignment will cause natural disasters. I do not feel that it will be the end of days.

Crap, something more to worry about, those Mayans all work no play, lol

Bob, with your knowledge in Astronomy, what do you think the alignment will do? Anything?

Hi Aura, notta thing, but that is a scientific answer, and there are a lot of things science can't explain.

I can see the solar flares that are coming causing havoc here on earth with satellites etc.

My advice, keep wearing sunblock everyone!
