Fort Delaware

Fort Delaware is located on Pea Patch Island, in the middle of the Delaware river, and was once home to a Confederate Prison during the Civil War. After the Battle of Gettysburg the fort became home to nearly 17,000 people. Overcrowding, and the fact that the island was more or less a swamp-like environment, gave rise to many infectious diseases. In the end, more than 2,400 people died on the island during the fortress' operation.

Today Fort Delaware is a state park offering visitors a glimpse at what life was like for those who once lived there. Some say more than a historical fort remain. During tours and reenactments, visitors and staff have seen apparitions in period clothing going about their business throughout the fort. Also, cries of agony and pain have been heard in the underground tunnels that were once used to hold prisoners.

Recently, the team from TAPS were called in to listen to claims of paranormal activity and conduct an investigation of the site. Their experiences there and their findings aired last night on an episode of Ghost Hunters. If you missed the episode or want to see the footage for the first time, click here.

I have a friend that visited Ft. Delaware, a couple of years ago. He captured a photo of a woman that appears to be a slave holding a baby. I will upload it to my blog soon, so you can see it.
Thanks for posting the you-tube liknk for the ghost-hunters show. I had missed part of the show last night, and got to watch it on the web thanks to your post.
