Haunted Italy

Italy is known for its stunning beauty, fashion, world famous cuisine and home to history's most notable figures. Fashion, food and landscape aside, take a look at some of Italy's most haunted places.

Lucideo Abbey

The Ponte dei Sospiri - the Bridge of Sighs - in Venice, Italy passes over the Rio di Palazzo which once connected the old prisons to the interrogation rooms in the Doge's Palace. The bridge is the last view of Venice that convicts saw before their imprisonment. Locals say that unexplained sounds of groans, whispers and sighs can be heard coming from the bridge.

Italy's Most Haunted Island- Poveglia

The Coliseum, Rome- here some say that at night, when all is quite, you can hear the sounds of swords clashing, horses and voices of men talking.

Ca' Dario- a palace on the Grand Canal which has a long history of murder and suicide. This building has the highest rate of unusual and sudden deaths amongst its owners. Known as the "Dario Curse", famed bass guitarist John Entwistle of The Who was said to be leasing this palazzo at the time of his death in 2002.

I couldn't imagine what it was like being drug on to an island full of rotting corpses, knowing you're never going to leave. I hope people today have the good sense, if faced with such a problem, not to go to such extreme lengths, but people do crazy things during crazy times.
