Icelandic Elves

The existence of elves has long been the belief among many Icelanders. It is said that when the Vikings landed on Iceland's shores, they soon realized that they were not alone. The belief is so popular that a museum, school and documentary film have all be created to teach others more about the existence of these beings. Entire roadways have been built to bend around the rocks where these creatures are said to live in order to appease them.

Hidden people, as they are commonly called, are said to dwell in rocky outcroppings and forests. Eyewitnesses describe these beings as human-like with pointy ears, standing approximately 3 1/2 feet tall; however, some have been seen as large as the average human. Generally the hidden people keep to themselves but have been known to be mischievous from time to time. It is said that anyone who disrespects nature will be met by angry elves.

Until recently, I've never given Icelandic elves much thought. It was last night when I watched Josh Gates and his team that I got the idea for this post. Something seems to be going on-what, is the big question.

To the average person here in the west the idea a elves, gnomes and dwarfs seems ridiculous. But is it?

I saw most of the show last night but, didn't get to finish it. What did they find out? The last thing I saw was one of the cameras had been unplugged by something. Maybe an elf? :o)

Hi, thanks for commenting and visiting my site. They captured a few voices out there. There was no evidence of what caused the camera to come unplugged or knocked over.

I would like to digg a bit deeper into this belief and see what I can find...

Of course they weren't alone, Irish hermits had been using Iceland as a retreat for centuries.

And when the Norse turned up.... they hid.
