Tuning Into The Other Side- Frank's Box

I recently spoke with Frank Sumption, creator of Frank's Box, and asked him where the idea for his device came from. Frank's Box is believed by many to provided a means of communication between the living and those on the other side.
I read an article in a 1995 Popular Electronics on EVP, tried it once, but didn't get anything. So I set the magazine aside. I came across the magazine again in 2000, and decided to try it again, this time I got voices using white noise. From there it was just a process of trying different methods, like EVPmaker. While using EVPmaker I kept getting messages that seemed to be relayed from spirits that couldn't use the computer, so I was wondering what else I could use. After about a week, the box idea kinda popped into my head fully formed. It was based on using voltage tunable radio modules from older digital car stereos, and tuning them with a random voltage derived from white noise. I had used the radio modules in the 90s for AM DX, so I think my own mind might have just provided a solution based on past experience. I used random voltage because I was using EVPmaker at the time, and it's based on a random function. We found out on the EVP-ITC yahoo group that the sweep can be linear, or even done by hand in 2007.

I started with EVP in 2000, and made the first box in the summer of 2002.

I've always done my "sessions" from home, I don't go to supposedly haunted locations, and it kinda irks me that most think you have to go haunted houses to make spirit contact. They treat it like year round Halloween, and if it's not scary, it can't be real. All that TAPS stuff is mostly Hollywood, and urban legend--I think.

I have gone to the Stanley Hotel here in Colorado twice so far on invites to speak, and I don't get anything different than I get at home. I don't think the place was even haunted till after the movie The Shining. My "opinion" is that most of the haunting evidence is created by the participants, and is mostly suggestion. With no observer, I think there is no haunting. Of course that's a simplification, there has to be something that gets people's attention, but I think it's intentional. Going to a haunted location maybe a way of making death easier to deal with.

My thanks to Frank for taking the time to share his story with me and my readers.

Ghost Hunters-EVPs

Here is a clip of an excellent EVP captured by the TAPS team during a recently aired episode of Ghost Hunters. It is always nice to see what is happening at the moment recording takes place.

When The Dead Call

Phone calls from the dead? It may sound crazy to you but, numerous people who have lost loved ones have experienced this and in some cases even have the evidence on their answering machines. Most often the calls come on dates of importance or shortly after the person dies and in the form of a farewell message. In the majority of the cases the connection is of poor quality, the voice sounds far away and ends abruptly. There have even been a few accounts of people placing calls to a person who has already passed away and the deceased answers the phone!

Here are some true stories told by those that have experienced them.

Something Strange, Indeed

This happened to my older brother, Matt, about a year ago, just a few weeks after my eldest brother Jeremy's best friend, Joe, died of heart trouble. Matt received a telephone call from a person that sounded exactly like Joe. He said something like, "Matt, it's Joe. Is Jeremy home? Something really strange is going on." Matt freaked out and could hardly answer, "No, he's not. Sorry." Then the phone hung up and Matt looked at the caller I.D.; it read, "Out of area." So Matt tried *69, but they were unable to trace the call. We never got another telephone call from Joe. It still scares Matt to think of it. - Janaye S.

Say Goodbye, Grandpa

My husband lost his grandfather a long time ago. But just recently he has been experiencing something really weird. He has seen his grandfather's name on our caller ID. So we thought someone was calling from his grandfather's house. That was the first time, and no one was even home. Just today, for the second time, he was at work and clearly, along with co-workers, heard the phone ring. He answered it on the first ring, but only heard a dial tone. When he looked at the phone's directory, which has no caller ID, but lists who he has called, he saw the grandfather's name again. What could this mean? How could it be happening? - Leroy L.

Money is Useless Here

One of my clients related this story to me a few years ago. At the time she worked for the Department of Social Services and one of the services she offered was checks for emergency expenses. She had issued a check for $100 to one of her clients for utilities and was about to close the file when her phone rang. On the line was the woman to whom the check was issued. The woman sounded vague and distracted, but clearly said, "I won't be needing that $100 after all." My client made a note of it and went on with her other work. That evening at home she was reading the newspaper when she saw the obituary of the woman she had talked with on the phone. She had died the previous day! - Mary B.

Source of stories

Are spirits of our loved ones and earthbound ghosts able to somehow manipulate our electronic devices to reach us from the beyond? Or do you think this is the result of psychokinesis, which has been one of the theories given to explain these occurrences.

EVP

Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) is the recording of ghostly voices from those that have passed over. During a recording no voices are actually heard. It is when the tapes are played back that the voices become audible. Tape recorders, computers, answering machines and cell phones are all devices that have been used to record EVP. Some recordings require filtering to hear them more clearly.

So how is this possible? It is believed that the spirits can somehow interrupt the magnetic field to produce this phenomena.

Here is an EVP recording that I found for you to listen to. What do you think? Is this an actual voice from beyond the grave???
