Haunted Gettysburg Orphanage

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania has been a mecca to Civil War history buffs and

paranormal investigators for years. Thousands of people descend upon the town each year to watch the reenactment of America's deadliest battle, and to gain knowledge about those who lived and died there during that time. There are few places in Gettysburg one can venture to that are free of ghostly encounters.

A place well-known for its paranormal activity is the Soldier’s National Museum. In the 1860's and 70's it housed the orphans whose fathers fought and died for the Union. Rosa Carmichael was a teacher and disciplinarian at the orphanage. She was a wicked women who despised the innocent children. Rosa would abuse and torture the orphans by shackling them to walls and by locking them in a dungeon-like room she created in the basement. In that dark, dank room she would tie their hands together and force them to stand upright in vats of water until they nearly drowned. In 1876 she was convicted, fined and run out of town for her cruelties, and the orphanage was permanently closed.

Today, the museum is one of the most haunted locations in Gettysburg. Many believe it is Rosa whose ghost lingers in the building. A number of paranormal groups, including the television shows Ghost Adventures and Ghost Hunters have done investigations here. The tragic events that occurred here are certain to have imprinted the fabric of time; creating an atmosphere most suitable for hauntings.

Parafest 2013 Recap

Enjoying my #parahangover after spending an incredible weekend in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to attend Parafest 2013, which was held at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center.

When I arrived it was early in the day. I took full advantage of this and made a beeline over to where the two Tango's (Dave and Bruce), Steve Gonsalves and Grant Wilson were set up. These guys were great! They were easy to approach, funny and enjoyed meeting their fans. I took a number of pics with them, and got my 8 year old son an autographed photo of Dave and Steve. This got me the Coolest Mom of the Year award when I got home. 9 seasons in and these guys do it with the same dedication and passion as they did the day it all started. Ghost Hunters returns to SyFy Oct. 9th 9/8C.

Brian J Cano (Tech Specialist) and Jason Gates (Investigator/Researcher) from the SyFy show Haunted Collector were also in the house! Brian grew up in Staten Island, NY. There, his exploration into the unknown began at old and abandon buildings near his home. Armed with a plethora of high-tech gadgets and gear, there's no place Brian won't venture into to capture evidence to support the claims of paranormal activity. When not working on cases for the show, Brian produces and edits a paranormal documentary series called SCARED.  Jason spent his early years in Colorado and Idaho. He loves to play a good drum kit, being outdoors and connecting with his fans. Both Jason and Brian have infectious smiles that keep one coming back for another; I am guilty of passing their tables at least 5 times to speak with them and see those smiles, lol!  These two guys were super cool, a lot of fun and do the best photo bombs!

Here is the crème de la crème of my weekend - I finally got to meet, the best of the best, the Booth Brothers! Regular readers of this blog know how much I admire these two amazing souls and how supportive I am of their films. Soon they will be heading to New Orleans to begin filming their latest horror movie. Keep your eyes open for future posts about this movie folks. Philip gave me a quick synopsis; I can not wait for the film to come out in 2014.

Actors and actresses from shows: The Walking Dead, True Blood and Supernatural were also there to meet and greet their fans alongside numerous other celebrity favorites.  I had the pleasure of meeting Lew Temple (Axel, Walking Dead), IronE Singleton (T-Dog, Walking Dead), Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pam, True Blood), Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore, Ghostbusters) and Richard Kiel
(Jaws, The Spy Who Loved Me)

As I write this post, my voice is hoarse and a good nap is in order - two signs that much fun was had! It was an absolute pleasure and honor to spend quality time with everyone; with those whose work I admire. Each of them were genuine and most grateful for their fans.

The venue rocked! All the fans in attendance were awesome! High fives to the organizers of the event, Paradox Entertainment, and to all the kind volunteers. You all did a great job.

Paranormal Witness Show

I recently began watching the SyFy TV show called Paranormal Witness. I was skeptical at first- as a number of the shows that deal with the subject of the supernatural have become pretty lame in my opinion. However, I have found myself enjoying this one. Paranormal Witness reminds me of Unsolved Mysteries and when that show would have segments on about the unexplained. I remember my eyes would be glued to the television. This episode of Paranormal Witness that I saw was about a poltergeist type haunting. What I loved about it was that the episode included actual footage that the family captured. Here is that episode.

'The Bloodiest 47 Acres in America'

The Missouri State Penitentiary was nicknamed 'the bloodiest 47 acres in America' by Time magazine in 1967 due to the numerous violent deaths and brutal assaults that took place there.  The prison dates back to the early 1800's and housed some of America's most violent criminals before becoming decommissioned in 2004.

In 2009 the prison opened its doors to the public offering tours of the site. Since then, reports of disembodied voices, apparitions, and sounds of slamming cell doors have been made. Back in June, the team from TAPS came to the penitentiary to investigate the claims of paranormal activity there. An upcoming episode of Ghost Hunters will air their findings in November.

I have not found a whole lot of information regarding the unexplained occurrences claimed to be going on here. However, I did come across a disturbing article from a former inmate called The Wall. I am looking forward to seeing what TAPS found, if anything, during their investigation.

Paranormal Cops

Tuesday night a new show aired on A&E called Paranormal Cops. The team is made up of seven investigators: Tom Froelich, Pete Schleich, Austin Weinstock and Sgt. Ron Fabiani who are Chicago area police officers by day and bring their investigative expertise to the city's locations where paranormal activity is being reported. Also, medium Moriah Rhame, video expert Scot Ziarko and researcher Brian Jones are part of the crew.

The episode that premiered Tuesday night took place in Montrose Park at Big Timers Sound Shop. Researcher Brian Jones discovered that the building used to be a restaurant called Casa Madrid where gambling and mob "business" took place. Armed with EMF detectors, thermal imaging cameras and digital audio recorders, the team captured some amazing evidence that coincided with the claims of unexplained paranormal activity that has been frightening the employee there.

I loved this show and it's location! I look forward to watching future investigations by the Chicago Paranormal Detectives and all that my favorite city has to offer.

Paranormal Cops airs Tuesday nights 10:30/9:30 C on A&E.

Paranormal Activity at the Hotel Conneaut

Located inside the grounds of an old amusement park in Northern Pennsylvania, the famed Hotel Conneaut is the site of ongoing paranormal activity. This unexplained activity has been terrorizing staff and guests for some time. Reports of slamming doors, sightings of apparitions and the moving of objects have those who work at this location spooked and fearing for their safety.

Recently psychic medium Chip Coffey and the team from Paranormal Research Society conducted a full investigation of this location which was on an episode of Paranormal State. Featured in the episode is video footage of an interesting image adding to the unexplained events taking place at this hotel.

Airline Pilots and Passengers Witness UFOs

On February 28, 1994, a pilot from Air France along with passengers and crew witnessed an enormous glowing, disc-shaped object while flying to London. In 2007, two pilots on separate passenger aircraft's witnessed a giant UFO. Watch as the team from UFO Hunters investigate these sightings.

Haunted Fort Henry

Air Date: Wednesday, October 14, 2009 @ 9 PM on Syfy

Fort Henry – Kingston, Ontario

TAPS heads north to explore the most haunted place in Canada. Fort Henry served as a prison and execution site for hundreds of dangerous convicts. Over the years, employees and visitors have witnessed a number of strange, frightening events.

Built in 1812, Fort Henry served as a prisoner-of-war camp for captured Nazis during World War II. Today, the fort is a National Heritage Site and a memorial to Canada’s military history. Historical eyewitness accounts suggest that paranormal entities have long been haunting the fort.

Strange apparitions, mysterious sounds of shattering glass and other ghostly activities have been recorded in this great maze of a military complex. Could the restless spirits of dead prisoners be stirring trouble? TAPS investigates.

Ghost Adventures Is Back

For all fans of Ghost Adventures, season 2 kicks off this Friday on the Travel Channel with an investigation at Preston Castle (video).

Located in the state of California, Preston is known as one of the oldest youth correctional facilities in the United States. The facility opened in 1894 and remained open until 1960. Following 1960, the institution sat vacant and falling into ruins until 2001 when The Preston Castle Foundation received a fifty-year lease for the property.

Paranormal experiences at this location included: shadow people, full bodied apparitions, being touched by unseen hands and lots of EVPs. If you are interested in checking this place out for yourself, overnight tours are offered for 100 bucks per person.

Garden State Ghosts

Tonight on Ghost Hunters, TAPS' investigation of the Essex County Sanatorium & Hospital in Newark, New Jersey, will air as the shows mid season finale.

This facility was once a psychiatric hospital until it was abandoned in the 1990's. Some of the paranormal occurrences reported here are: screams, apparitions, bangs and other creepy happenings. Building 11, which once housed the morgue and criminally insane, is said to have the most activity.

This location has been investigated in the past by the guys from Ghost Adventurers. Maybe TAPS has been able to capture some good evidence here - adding validation to the reports.
