The Enfield Case

The Enfield Poltergeist Story captured the attention of many individuals during the late 1970's. The events took place at the Harper family home in Enfield, North London. Some believe this is the story of a genuine poltergeist haunting while others are convinced this was a hoax.

I have also provided the forty five minute documentary about this case in the left side bar.

Haunted Dolls

When you hear the word haunted you immediately associate it with homes, cemeteries and places that have been around for centuries. Do you believe that items can be haunted? What about haunted dolls? A number of people swear they exist. They have even been known to show up on eBay for auction.

This is the true story of Annabelle. A haunted Raggedy Anne doll which was the focus of a case that famed paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren took part in during the 1970's.

The Warren's were contacted by a priest claiming that two young women were being tormented by a spirit in their apartment. The women and another tenant witnessed objects moving on their own along with messages written with childlike penmanship appearing on paper. Shortly after these strange incidences, the two women decided to call a medium for help. The medium told them that a seven year old girl named Annabelle Higgins died on the property and was responsible for the terrifying disturbances they were experiencing. The spirit of the little girl was happy were she was and wanted to stay around the two women. The spirit asked if she could stay with them by going into the doll and the two women said yes. They felt sorry for the little girl and wanted to comfort her. Soon after, the women claimed the doll would move to other rooms on it's on and change positions after being left a certain way. Things took a turn for the worse one evening when something attacked a male tenant leaving slash marks on his chest.

Ed and Lorraine began their investigation immediately. Here is the full account of what has become the most asked about case that the Warren's took part in.

This story gave me the creeps. I never liked those dolls....

Phantom Plane

Here is an interesting article I found on the subject of "ghost planes". I have come across a number of articles on the subject and I am very interested in this phenomenon.

Fire In The Sky Mystery

Northerners have been left baffled by sightings of mysterious objects lighting up the region's skies.

Several people have reported seeing balls of fire, and one woman even claimed she and her daughter had narrowly avoided being burnt after one hit her car.

Graham Little described how he saw spheres of bright orange light and was so shocked he called the Royal Astronomical Society to try to find some explanation of what he saw.

The 46-year-old was with a friend and his 10-year-old daughter when he saw the giant balls of light over Washington, Tyne and Wear, at around 10pm on Friday night.

He said: "I've been frightened to talk about it for fear of ridicule.

"I just want to know what it is as there has to be some sort of rational explanation.

"I've never seen anything like it in my life. We saw a ball of light in the sky about 5000ft up.

"It was oscillating and pulsating, but it was not a plane. It moved up and down for a couple of minutes then it disappeared. I am in shock as it was so weird and strange.

"I look at the stars regularly with my telescope and have seen meteorites and satellites and it was something totally different.

"I can only describe it as being like when a firework first goes off and you have that split second when it bursts into a bright light."

And on Thursday afternoon, a 56-year-old woman, who did not wish to be named, called police saying that a ball of flame the size of two footballs had hit the car she was travelling in from West to East Boldon.

The woman, who had been a passenger in her daughter's car, said: "As it came towards us it hit my side of the car. If it had been a split second earlier I would have had the window open. I got such a fright.

"We went back but there was no glass, no petrol, so I don't think it could have been someone throwing something at us."

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said officers were investigating.

She said: "We are aware of this and there were superficial marks on the car which rubbed off which were caused by unknown means and we are looking into this."

Professor Sir Arnold Wolfendale, professor of physics at Durham University said the strange phenomenon could be ball lightning which takes the form of a glowing, floating object often the size and shape of a basketball.

He said: "It could be ball lightening which is a candescent ball of gas and can be up to 1ft in diameter. That would seem to be the likely cause, but I would not like to say."

Back Home

I phoned home the other day to see how my family was doing. We once again got on the topic of the strange happenings going on around there. Doors that continue to open and close on their own, and the sound of footsteps when no one else is there are the most frequent things being witnessed by members of my family.

Recently my brother and his fiancee were sitting downstairs when they heard our dog walking around the upstairs. Our dog passed away last October after being struck by a car, yet they distinctly heard the sound of her dog tags jingling along with the sound of her paws walking on the floor. With hardwood throughout, all the sounds are twice as loud then when there was carpeting in the home. My brother, who recently moved back home, turned white and was at a loss for words.

The Tulip Staircase

This famous image is known as the Tulip Staircase. This photograph was taken in 1966 by Reverend Hardy and his wife during a visit to the Queen's House in Greenwich, England. The stairs were blocked off from tourists and not in use by staff at the time. The figure was not seen by the couple when the photograph was taken. To the couples amazement, an image of a hooded figure showed up on the film once it was processed.

It has been said that Kodak, along with other film experts, have thoroughly examined the film and concluded that it is genuine.

Strange sounds and ghostly figures have been encountered here over the years. Perhaps this spooky looking apparition is responsible for the paranormal activity there.

Government Employee Speaks Openly About Aliens

I recently came across this video and thought I would share it with all of you. I had to play it twice to make sure of what I was hearing. It's pretty out there, but it is not the craziest thing I have come across while doing research for my site. I can't wait to read your comments on this one.

Hampton Court Palace Ghost

This video was taken in December of 2003 at the Hampton Court Palace near London, England, which was once home to King Henry VIII. Security guards heard the alarm go off indicating that the fire door had been opened. They checked the doors and found them closed. When they went to examine the tape from the closed-circuit security camera this is what they saw.

The alarm was tripped the day before at the same time and the day following this video. The ghostly specter showed up on the camera only once. A spokesperson for the Palace, said “We’re baffled too--it’s not a joke, we haven’t manufactured it. We genuinely do not know who it is or what it is.” Some have speculated that this is the ghost of Henry VIII who is known to haunt his former residence.

Friday the 13th: Superstition vs Reality

FRIDAY THE 13TH is back! Avoid black cats, mirrors, ladders and do not spill the salt. One of the most widespread superstitions of modern day is that Friday the 13th is an inauspicious day. In this symbolism, both Friday as well as 13 are considered to be unlucky and when added, their sum accounts double trouble.

Superstitions revolving around Friday the 13th as being unlucky have existed since ancient times beginning with the Northern countries. The modern day context originated from October 13, 1307 which is regarded as a black day in history. The catastrophe that occurred this day was known as the ‘Decimation of the Knights Templar’, the legendry order of ‘warrior monks’ formed during the crusades. Acclaimed as a fighting force for 2000 years, the order had grown so powerful; it was perceived as a political threat by kings and popes alike who sought to bring it down.

On the infamous Friday of October 13, 1307, officers of King Philip IV of France carried out mass arrests in a well-coordinated raid that left thousands of knights, templars, sergeants and priests charged with heresy, obscenities and homosexuality. None of these charges were ever proven, but the seven years following the arrests thousands of templars and knights suffered excruciating tortures and many of them were executed by the burning stake.
Ancient Romans committed the sixth day of the week to Venus, the goddess of beauty and love. When the Norsemen adopted the Roman method of naming days, they called it Freya, a translation for the goddess which eventually evolved into Friday, which was considered to be the luckiest day of the week.

Muslims regard Friday as the day God created Adam and Christians consider it as the day on which Christ was crucified.

According to a popular Scandinavian belief the number 13 indicated bad luck which resulted from Loki, their 13th demigod, who inflicted great misfortune on humans. In Christianity, Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus, was the 13th guest at the table of The Last Supper.
The biggest drawback in the theory stating that Friday the 13th is unlucky is the fact the there is no documentation of such beliefs prior to the 19th century. There is no evidence to back the fact that people observed it as a day likely to bring misfortune. Superstitions originate from beliefs or practices man used or is using to protect himself. It throws light on the fact the somewhere all of us are insecure. Despite the advancements in science and technology we are still unable to contest the paranormal.

People tend to overlook superstitions unless they are backed by concrete scientific evidence. The origin of every superstition is a belief. The phobia of Friday, the 13th is called Paraskevidekatriaphobia.

Interesting facts
The number 13 is despised by many to this extent that certain cities do not have a 13th Street or Avenue.
Some buildings do not have a 13th floor.
Certain hotels do not have a room numbered 13.
The opera house in Italy has also avoided the number.

Numerology and the number 13
According to numerology, the number signifies change. This can be positive as well as negative. Nothing associated with the number is jinxed. It is an utter myth.

Hype about Friday the 13th
After the release of the Hollywood blockbuster Friday the 13th the media created much hype about the day being ill-fated and unlucky.
Friday the 13th is not a day to be despised. We live in a superstitious world and it is likely for many to be paranoid in response to certain phobias. Today being Friday the 13th thousands of people will stay indoors, avoid driving and indulge in a number of religious affairs to ward off the so-called ill-effects of the day. Any kind of fear is a creation of the mind. One needs to learn to overcome such superstitions and beliefs by taming the mind in the right way.

The Proctor Haunting

Have you ever spent the night in a house reputed to be haunted? This story could make you reconsider.

It was the autumn of 1834 when the Proctors, a Quaker family, began to notice disturbances in their house near Tyneside in northern England. Every member of the family complained of hearing footsteps and whistling that could not be accounted for. The sound of a clock being wound could not be explained. Over a six-year period, the intensity of the haunting increased. The stomping of angry footsteps echoed throughout the house, contrasted by faint whisperings. And then there were the apparitions. The white figure of a strange woman was seen in a window by a neighbor, and then seen in other rooms of the house by the Proctors. A disembodied white face appeared over a stair railing, seeming to watch the family.

The Proctor's plight was known throughout the area, and then, as now, there were skeptics who were certain they could explain it all away. On July 3, 1840, Edward Drury, a local doctor, volunteered to spend a night in the house with his colleague, T. Hudson, while the Proctors were away. Dr. Drury armed himself with pistols and waited on the third floor landing, unafraid of what he was sure were mundane house noises. Less than an hour into his vigil, Drury began to hear soft footfalls, then a knocking and an echoing cough. Hudson had fallen asleep. But at about 1 a.m., Dr. Drury watched in horror as a closet door slowly swung open out of which floated toward him the ghostly lady in white. Drury screamed and charged the phantom, succeeding only in tripping over his friend Hudson. What next happened the doctor could not recall. "I have since learned," he later wrote, "that I was carried downstairs in an agony of fear and terror."

Some years later the Proctors could stand no more of the unexplained manifestations and vacated the house in 1847. The building was later torn down.

The Waverly Hills Sanatorium

Located in Louisville, Kentucky, The Waverly Hills Sanatorium is known as one of the "scariest places on earth". This creepy place is home to disembodied voices, cold spots, slamming doors, and numerous ghosts that roam the building making it one of America's most reputable haunted places.

The Waverly Hills Sanatorium was used as a hospital in the early twentieth century for those suffering with tuberculosis in the area. "With so many newly infected patients admitted, and so many dying every day, hospital staff was under pressure to get rid of the dead quickly to make room for others. Further, the staff feared that the sheer number of dead bodies leaving the hospital would affect the morale of living patients, while the public feared that releasing the infected dead might be dangerous to the healthy. The solution: Dead bodies were first hung on poles in a room referred to as the draining room, and slit from sternum to groin to enable the release of all bodily fluids. The corpses were then sent down a body chute or, as it has also been called, the death tunnel, whose outlet was located near the railroad tracks at the bottom of the hill. A hearse would pick up the bodies and transport them to the crematorium. Both the draining room and the body chute are considered popular haunted spots." Horrific experimental treatments were also performed regularly on the sick by staff members trying to cure their illness. The use of electroshock therapy, thoracoplasty (surgically removing segments of the rib) , and pneumothorax (collapsing the lung) procedures often ended in death.

With the introduction of an antibiotic for the disease in the 1940's, the number of those being diagnosed with TB dropped and the hospital was no longer needed. The building closed in 1961, but shortly reopened as Woodhaven Geriatrics Sanatorium. Reports of patient abuse forced its closure in the early 1980's.

Today, The Waverly Hills Sanatorium is a popular place for paranormal investigators, ghost hunters and those seeking a good scare. Two apparitions, seen by many, have been a ghost of a little boy bouncing a ball and a women running with slits in her wrists. Also the cries of those who suffered within the walls have been heard on numerous occasions. Spooked: The Ghosts of Waverly Hills Sanatorium is an excellent documentary exposing the chilling truth behind this terrifying place.

Haunted Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a hot spot for hauntings. When I think of Vegas, I think of organized crime, high rollers and people seeking fame and fortune. What I don't often think about are all the haunted places there. Here are some legitimate documented sightings that have taken place in Sin City.

The ghost of notorious Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel has been seen a number of times at the Flamingo Hilton Hotel. On one occasion, a cleaning lady was making her rounds on the 5th floor when she saw Siegel's ghost in the hallway. The woman was so frightened that she quit her job that day. Another area where Siegel's ghost has been seen, is in the presidential suite which was his private residence until his violent death in 1947. People staying in this room have seen Bugsy in the bathroom and by the pool table. His apparition has also appeared to visitors around the pool area.

Another well known haunted spot is the property where the Bally's Hotel and Casino now sits. The property used to be where the MGM Grand stood. In 1980 a fire destroyed a large portion of the hotel killing 84 people who were trapped inside. A lot of badly burned bodies were found in the stairway's. It is here were a number of sightings have taken place. It has also been reported that the new site of the MGM Grand, which is nearby, is haunted by a number of ghosts believed to be those killed in that fire. Staff there have reported strange occurrences. They say if you work the night shift(12:00-8:00am)you can see a figure of a person laying on the bed. Most cleaning ladies in the emerald tower (green tower) hold rosary beads when walking through those halls. Visitors and staff have also seen ghostly figures that appear and disappear before them.

The Luxor Hotel and Casino is said to be haunted by the workers who were killed there during its construction. Ghosts have been seen roaming the long hallways of the pyramid by a number of eyewitnesses.

The Marfa Lights

Ghost lights have been seen all over the world for many years. Perhaps the most famous are the Marfa Lights.

Named after Marfa, Texas, the Marfa Lights were first reported in 1883 by Robert Reed Ellison. Ellison along with other witnesses believed the lights to be a campfire in the distance. Upon investigation, they never found any ashes or traces that a campfire had been where the lights were seen. The strange appearance of these nocturnal lights have continued to wow onlookers and researchers to this day. The lights have been reported as appearing spherical and reddish-orange in color. "The balls are said to hover at about shoulder height, or to move laterally at low speeds, or sometimes to shoot around rapidly in any direction. They often appear in pairs or groups, according to reports, to divide into pairs or merge together, to disappear and reappear, and sometimes to move in seemingly regular patterns. Their sizes are typically said to resemble soccer balls or basketballs." Wiki
When approached, the lights always disappear.

There has been much debate through the years over the exact cause for these "ghost lights". Some explanations that have been given for their existence are: electrostatic discharge, swamp gas, atmospheric phenomena and car headlights. A large group of people believe these lights are convincing evidence that Ufo's exist. Whatever the cause, their origin remains a mystery and continues to baffle all who have witnessed them.

Bobby Clarkes Bigfoot Footage

Last night I watched the one hour documentary on CTV about the Bigfoot sighting that took place in Manitoba, Canada in April of 2005. I was looking forward to this all last week long. After watching the footage, I was very disappointed. Once again, shaky footage of poor quality showing nothing aside from a black figure can be made out. There is no doubt that something was caught on film. However, I am not convinced that this is Bigfoot.

Here is the footage
